Dhanteras is celebrated on the first day of the five-day festival of Diwali. Dhanteras is derived from two words ‘Dhan’ meaning ‘wealth’ and ‘teras’ meaning ‘13th day’. It falls on the thirteenth lunar day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Ashwin. The day holds a great significance and it is contemporary to perform God Kuber and Goddess Mahalakshmi puja. Dhanteras is also known as Dhanwantari Triodasi or Dhanvantri Jayanti. In 2018, Dhanteras falls on November 2018.
